PolyAdult Mentoring and Peer Counseling Resources

PolyAdult Mentoring and Peer Counseling is defined as a sustained relationship between a less experienced Polyamorist and more experienced Polyamorist. Through continued involvement, the more seasoned Polyamorist offers support, guidance, and assistance as the junior Polyamorist goes through a difficult times, faces new challenges, or works to correct earlier problems.

Providing assistance where support is either unavailable or traditional counseling unable to provide responsible guidance due to lack of experience with Polyamorous relationships or lack of local Polyamory theraputic resources. It is the hope of the Polyamory Society that the PolyAdult Mentoring and Peer Counseling Resources and Network can play a critical role in providing confidential, individual peer support.

Some of the PolyAdult Mentoring and Peer Counseling Resources available through the Society is Planned match mentoring and peer counseling, Natural mentoring and peer counseling. Planned match mentoring and peer counseling resources occurs through structured programs in which mentors and participants are selected and matched through the Societies Local Chapters, internet webpage, or written correspondance to the Society. Natural mentoring and peer counseling resources occurs through friendship, collegiality, teaching, coaching, modeling and counseling.

How Does the Resources and Network Work?

The PolyAdult Mentoring and Peer Counseling Resources and Network will attempt to match a suitable mentors or peer counselors with junior Polyamorist. Potential mentors or peer counselors are recruited from various sources. Nominations for mentors are sought formally and informally through flyers, posters, mailings, and word-of-mouth. Appropriately matching mentors or peer counselors with junior Polyamorists is the key to the success of the resources and or network. Matching will be done formally and informally through interviews, personal profiles, comparative interest inventories, and get-acquainted introductions.
